STUDIO CITY, CA (May 9, 2019) - A Studio City resident died early Tuesday morning when he rear-ended a semi-trailer truck at high speed on northbound Interstate 5 south of the San Joaquin County line, according to the CHP.

The crash occurred about 12:20 a.m. north of the Westley rest area, in an unincorporated area of Stanislaus County. Upon arriving at the scene, CHP Modesto officers found 50-year-old Lance Ober still in his 2018 Nissan.  Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at 12:58.

The two men in the semi-truck were not injured.  The CHP identified the driver as Waheed Khan, 32, of Stockton, and his passenger as Bradlee Gomes, 25, of Modesto.

It has not been determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. A CHP officer said that just prior to the crash, there was at least one report of a reckless driver on I-5, which appears to have been Ober.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the victims of this horrible incident.
