Highway 85 crash

Mountain View, CA — Two people were killed in an early morning head-on crash Friday Sept. 13 on Highway 85.

The CHP reports that a wrong-way driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 85 near the Highway 237 exit at around 1 a.m. Friday when they crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

Police arrived to find a Ford vehicle overturned and engulfed in flames. A second vehicle, a Honda, was badly damaged, CHP said.

Police determined the Ford had been traveling the wrong way into oncoming traffic.

The woman driving the Ford, who has not been identified, was not wearing a seatbelt and was trapped in her car, police said.

Both drivers died at the scene. There were no other passengers in the vehicles, according to police.

It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, CHP said.
