2 Killed, 5 Injured in Pileup Along 71 Freeway

Two people were killed in a crash along 71 Freeway

Two people were killed in a crash along 71 Freeway involving a truck and five other vehicles. The crashed caused delays as the southbound lanes were shut down for several hours following the crash.

According to authorities, the crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12 when a box truck failed to slow down with traffic. The truck reportedly hit one car, pushing it out of the way, before hitting a second vehicle.

After the second collision, the truck lost control, spinning across four lanes before overturning on top of one car and pinning another against a guard rail.

Two passengers in the car that was hit second were killed and pronounced dead at the scene. Five others, including a 15-year-old, were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Drivers say the freeway loses lanes near where the accident occurred, but it is unclear if a slowdown caused by the loss of lanes was a factor in the crash.
