Accident Near Rancho Maria Golf Course

Santa Maria, CA — One man is dead after a 3 car collision near the Rancho Maria Golf Course.

A driver of a produce truck, who remains unidentified, collided with a Toyota truck on Friday afternoon.

The Toyota was making a left turn out of the Golf Course, causing the produce truck to jackknife and spread produce and debris all over the road.

A white Volkswagon heading southbound tried to avoid the debris but flipped and ended up on its hood in a ditch. The occupants of the Volkswagon and the driver of the Toyota sustained minor injuries.

The collision caused the big rig to turn on its side and sustain major damage to its front end. Firefighters extricated the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rancho Nuevo Harvesting Co, based in Santa Maria, owns the big rig. Their operations manager, Lino Esparza, was on the scene cooperating with police.

Highway 1 between Clark Avenue and Black Road remained closed for hours while crews cleaned up the scene and investigated the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
