Former Alaska high school student and baseball star Sladen Mohl, 19, died Thursday night after being struck by a car in Los Angeles.

Mohl was standing on an island near an intersection when a 16-year-old driver ran a red light and hit him before crashing into two other vehicles.

Police suspect drugs and alcohol were factors in the crash. Mohl suffered major injuries and died at the scene.

The Associated Press reported that Mohl was a key member of the 2017 undefeated baseball team at his high school in Alaska. This year, Mohl was a freshman at El Camino College, where he played catcher.
