Your Legal Options Following a Car Crash Fatality or Injury

Whether you lose a loved one in an accident or receive an injury, there are different ways you can pursue compensation. While money cannot replace the life of someone you love or fully heal some injuries, it is a chance for surviving family members or victims to hold the other driver accountable for their negligence.

If a loved one passes away as the result of a car crash, families may file a wrongful death claim. In this type of claim, families may seek a variety of damages, including:

  • Funeral and burial expenses,
  • Medical treatment costs prior to the victim’s death,
  • Loss of future financial support,
  • Loss of consortium, and
  • Pain and suffering.

These are just a few of the ways in which losing a loved one impacts a family. While it is not a comprehensive list, it should give families a good idea of what their options are.

For those who are injured in an accident, you may file a personal injury claim instead. The damages for this range anywhere from medical treatment costs and vehicle repairs to compensation for reduced quality of life and lower earning capacity.
