Woman, 25, Killed in Crash Involving 18-Wheeler While Fleeing Police

SUTTER, CA, (August 01, 2019) - A 25-year-old woman was killed when a police car chase ended in a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler early in the morning on Thursday, August 1st. An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer recognized a stolen Honda, driven by 21-year-old Jared Andrew Russell, along Route 20.

In the chase that followed, Russell reached speeds of close to 100 miles per hour. Police ended the chase for safety reasons when Russell attempted to pass two vehicles on the Sutter Bypass Bridge.

Russell crashed along Route 20 near West Butte Road. His passenger, Kelli Christine Zanon, 25, was the only victim of the crash. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.
