Series of Head-On Collisions Along Highway 41 Kills 1, Injures 6 Others
FRESNO, CA (August 2, 2019) - One woman was killed and six others were injured in a series of head-on collisions along Highway 41 on Friday night, August 2nd.
The first crash reportedly happened just before 9:00 p.m. about 21 miles south of Fresno. There, a woman in her 20s driving southbound drifted into the oncoming lanes for an unknown reason. She was killed when her vehicle crashed head-on into a Kia SUV occupied by an adult and three children. It is unknown if the passengers in the Kia were injured.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the second crash happened when a male driver traveling northbound drifted into the southbound lanes. When he tried to correct his course, he swerved and struck a woman who had pulled over and was trying to direct traffic caused by the first collision.
The same male driver then returned to the southbound lane and crashed head-on with a big rig. The woman directing traffic suffered major injuries and was rushed to the local hospital. Others involved had major to moderate injuries and were also transported to the hospital.
Authorities are investigating whether alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash. Both directions of the highway were shut down following the string of accidents.
