Pedestrian Killed After Trying to Retrieve Fallen Ladder on I-80
Dixon, California - According to reporting from Patch, a 58 year-old man named Joseph Gingerich has been identified as the victim of a deadly pedestrian accident that occurred on Interstate Highway 80, close to the Currey Road exit ramp.
Representatives for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Solano County Sheriff’s Office told reporters that Mr. Gingerich was driving a white pickup truck with a ladder on the back.
When the ladder fell off of the truck, he pulled his vehicle over to the shoulder of the road, got out, and attempted to retrieve it. As he was trying to get the ladder, he was struck by an oncoming car.
Emergency personnel workers from the Dixon Fire Department were at the site of the wreck within a matter of minutes. Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. There was a juvenile passenger in the truck with the victim. However, no one else is believed to have been injured in the collision.
