Man Dies After Being Struck Crossing Street in Los Feliz

Los Feliz (February 7, 2019) - A 70-year-old man died on Thursday morning after a vehicle hit him while he crossed an intersection near John Marshall High School. The man was suffering a medical emergency at the time.

At 8:10 am, Thursday morning the man was crossing the street at the intersection of Lyric Avenue and St. George St.

Witnesses say the victim was grabbing his chest as if he were suffering some type of medical episode. The man was then struck by a vehicle as it made a slow left-hand turn at the intersection. The driver, as well as a nurse and other witnesses, tried to help the man, but, he died at the scene.

Police say it is unclear whether the car drove into the victim, or if the victim collapsed and lunged into the car as a result of the medical emergency. The driver who struck the pedestrian was very distraught but remained at the scene to cooperate with the police investigation. The L.A. County coroner will determine which factor, the crash, the medical episode or a combination of both, caused the death of the victim.
