Fiery Crash in Fullerton Results in DUI Arrest
FULLERTON (February 27, 2019) - A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI charges after the car she was driving crashed into a building, starting a two-alarm fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:40 Wednesday morning to find a Fullerton eye doctor’s office in flames and a car wedged deep into the building.
Witnesses estimate the car was traveling at speeds upwards of 50 or 60 mph when the accident happened.
The vehicle hit a dip at the intersection causing the driver to lose control and slam into the building. Excessive speed was likely a major factor.
It appears the vehicle hit a non-structural area of the building which is what allowed it to become wedged so far into the building said Fullerton Fire Battalion Chief, Mike Meacham.
There were two women in the vehicle at the time of the crash. They were both able to escape with the help of a bystander. The driver initially fled the scene but was found at a business across the street. Both were treated for moderate injuries at a nearby hospital. The driver was later arrested under suspicion of DUI.
Fortunately, no one was in the building at the time of the crash and fire and there were no other reported injuries.
