Authorities Investigating Traffic Accident that Killed 71-Year-Old Woman

Two-car collision

California City, CA (July 17, 2019) — An elderly woman was killed in a traffic accident on California City Boulevard in the early afternoon on Wednesday, July 17.

Authorities responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. According to witnesses, a Toyota Camry crossed the boulevard and was struck by a Chevy SUV.

The 71-year-old driver of the Toyota, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene after police and paramedics performed CPR on her.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the local hospital.

Police say that neither speed nor alcohol appears to be factored in the crash, which is still under investigation.

Authorities have identified the man killed in a crash involving several vehicles late on Sunday, July 21.

Juan Esquivel, 71, was driving the wrong way in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 101 around 11:55 p.m. when he struck a 2015 Nissan Rogue. Both Esquivel and the woman, whose identity has not been released, were killed in the crash.

After the initial collision, another sedan and a truck hit the two cars before crashing into each other. The two passengers in the Nissan, both children, were hospitalized in an unknown condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
